Journal of the American Dietetic Associationの2009年2月号別冊として第三次学校栄養食事評価研究(SNDA-III)の知見が発表された。この調査は子どもたちの学校や学校以外での食習慣と肥満や過体重について調査したもので、287の公立学校の2314人の1-12年生の2004-2005年の2学期半ばのデータを集めて解析した。多くの学校で朝食と昼食を提供していてその内容は良くなっているがまだまだ改善の余地がある。
