特定の化学物質への暴露による公衆衛生リスクは、複数の製品や経路からの複合暴露を考えなければならない場合には評価が難しくなる。主な理由は適切な暴露データがないことである。ある製品にある化合物が存在するのかしないのか、またその濃度は、という情報がしばしば欠けている。
RIVMは4つの事例研究を行い、決定論的暴露推定による最悪ケースシナリオでリスクがないということを示すのに十分である場合もあるが、逆に現状の基準値では十分な消費者保護が提供できていないことを示す場合もある。
