Cancerの2006年10月15日号に発表された「Annual Report to the Nation on the Status of Cancer, 1975-2003, Featuring Cancer among U.S. Hispanic/Latino Populations」によれば、1990年代初めからのガン死亡率低下傾向が続いている。
死亡率低下はタバコ対策の成功・早期スクリーニング・治療の進歩によるとしている。特に男性の死亡率減少はタバコ対策が大きい。今後女性のタバコ対策の努力も必要である。
