洪水により、自動車や家庭用品に多く使用されている難燃剤PBDEが農地に増加しその農地の草を食べるウシのミルクに蓄積するのではないかと考えられている。Environmental Science & Technologyに発表された研究によれば、洪水のおきやすい地域の川の堆積物はPBDE濃度が高めであるがこれがその土壌の牧草には反映されていなかった。さらにミルクにも関係なかった。
