The American Journal of Pathologyに発表された、2,3-ペンタンジオ（PD）についてのラットでの研究。もう一つのバター風味香料ジアセチルは閉塞性細気管支炎を誘発することがわかっている。PDを各種濃度ラットに吸入させると呼吸上皮にジアセチル同様の傷害が観察された。
