ビタミンAは視覚や広範な組織の分化増殖、生殖、発育に必須である。標的動物でのトレランスデータは食用動物やペットについてはEUの最大規制値は動物の安全性には懸念はない。消費者暴露についてはリスクとなるのは肝臓のみである。飼料中のビタミンA含量最大値を減らすことでこのリスクは減らせるが排除はできない。
