米国34カ所で1998年以降大気中濃度を測定した。PCDDやPCDF、PCB類濃度は人口密度と相関があった。ダイオキシンは都市部と地方で差が無く、拡散が早いことを示した。
大気中PCBは夏が高く、PCBが土壌や植物から蒸発していることを示す。
