SCENIHRが歯科用アマルガムとその代替品の患者と使用者にとっての安全性に関する採集意見を発表した。2008年の先の意見を更新したもので、歯の治療へのアマルガムやその代替品の使用をどちらも排除するものではないと結論した。素材は患者の歯や妊娠やアレルギーなどの状況に応じて選択すべきである。
現在EUでは歯科用アマルガムの使用は減っていて代用品の使用が増加している。技術的美容的理由だけではなく水俣条約に沿った環境中水銀の削減のためでもある。
